I guarantee that nothing will make you forget the long wintry February days and remind you of summer more than this song by Rodney Atkins & don’t worry if you are not a country gal (as I am not) because it really grows on you, really and truly, and who doesn’t want to just unwind and unravel and put a little “gravel in their travel” and… “take a back road”? Writing is a lot like “taking the long way home” there is no quick way to get there. It’s all about opening up to creative discovery while at the same time, nailing and creating the story you want to tell. A crucial aspect of the creative process is unwinding and exploring… you have to set off on a road of discovery before you can find your story! Whew, yes it is an obvious metaphor but I appreciate home and summer now so much more having recently returned to it. I like this song too because who doesn’t love escaping the crush of traffic to unwind and have some quality time? We’ve had a nice winter but I often think back to our fun on the boat this summer and this song takes me there. It’s a great summery song for winter days. Add it to your writing playlist for a great pick-me-up:
